By Aviva Mishmari UltraShape will begin clinical trials in Israel next week of its non-invasive ultrasonic body contouring solution. The trials will be conducted on patients waiting for esthetic liposuctions. The trials will test the safety and toxicity of the company¼s treatment. A test of its esthetic results will be conducted in September. The company has completed the first trial in Israel on patients that already underwent surgery. UltraShape's treatment uses ultrasound to remove unwanted fat. Its treatment is intended as an alternative to liposuction procedures. Company data show that the US liposuction market was $4 billion last year. UltraShape has raised $2 million to date, including $500,000 at seed stage. The company is now holding its second financing round to raise $1-5 million, to be completed by the end of the year. UltraShape was founded and registered in the US in 2000 by managing director Ami Glicksman M.D., a plastic surgeon at Sheba Medical Center at Tel-Hashomer, and managing director Dr. Yoram Eshel. Shareholders are private investors (35%), founders (25%) and employees (15%). UltraShape has 13 employees at its headquarters in Delaware and its R&D center in Israel.
